West Lake Hangzhou Visitor Guide
West Lake is not a single viewpoint. It is a cultural landscape, so the right plan is one lake section, one slow walk or boat, and only one optional tea-village add-on.

For a first visit, arrive near the east side of the lake, walk a manageable section, add a boat or causeway if weather is clear, and save tea village time only if the day is not rushed.
Day Trip Route
- Take high-speed rail to Hangzhou East or Hangzhou Station, depending on your ticket.
- Use metro/taxi toward West Lake east side; Longxiangqiao is a useful metro reference.
- Walk the lakeside, then choose boat, causeway, or cafe/tea stop.
- Leave enough time for station transfer back to Shanghai.
Common Mistakes
- Trying to circle the whole lake in one short day.
- Adding Lingyin, Longjing, boat and Su Causeway all at once.
- Forgetting that Hangzhou has multiple rail stations.
