Chengdu Travel Guide for First-Time Visitors
Chengdu is the best first China city when you want pandas, food, tea houses, and a softer landing than the mega-city intensity of Beijing or Shanghai.

Where To Stay
- Chunxi Road / Taikoo Li: easiest first-time base for shopping, food, and metro access.
- Wenshu Monastery area: calmer, traditional, and good for teahouses.
- Tianfu Square: central and practical for transport.
Panda Visit Tip
Go early and check current reservation instructions before you arrive. The Chengdu panda base can change visitor notices and animal-area access, especially for crowd control and animal welfare.
